Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
